Again, we’ll move more deeply into the cell. During our last unit we learned how cells convert organic molecules (or sunlight) to ATP. Now we get to learn how some of that ATP is used. ATP is used for DNA replication, and DNA expression, better known as protein synthesis. We’ll spend the next three weeks learning about DNA and its relationship to the cell. Along the way we’ll use modern molecular biology techniques to amplify and analyze your DNA and genetically modify E. coli so it glows green like a jelly fish.
Monday: Wrap up Cellular Energetics, Begin “Road to the Double Helix”
Tuesday: AL-LA-Miss, More on DNA structure; semiconservative replication
Wednesday: DNA Extraction and DNA Replication
Thursday: Finish DNA Replication (AM)/Inreach with MS teachers (PM)
Friday: Overview of PCR lab. Prepare materials.
